The Battle

It was there, at a time so long ago
While walking through the darkened alleys
All alone, hate emanating, proudly it stood
The Closet from the pit of Hell

I am a great believer of my rights
The right to make my own mistakes
Of letting go of my past misdeeds
But this, this came from my mortal enemy

Now I would rather waltz with the wind
And swim against the raging torrents
Than to have to deal with this again
But this was not just ‘the chance encounter’

No not at all, not everything changes
Life is much more than just skin deep
When our wills last met, our last touch
Almost I believed that there was no need to leave

But something deep within me dragged me back
Saved me from that awful abyss
And I knew that on this I had to call
As once more I prepared for the battle

The End

The pain … I think … I can no longer take it
It bores into me, through my skull, into my brain
And from there it spreads outwards, like a wave
Burning every fibre of my being, leaving desolation

I was not always like this, at some time normal
I was like you, leading a boring, mundane life
There was nothing distinctive or different about me
Once seen, easily forgotten, part of the background

This was before THEY came, blending with humanity
Unable to be distinguished, silently conquering
I don’t know from where or when they came
I don’t even know how they came, but come they did

Why am I the only one? Why can I see them?
I can see their true shape, hideous creatures
Cold cruel eyes, there is no pity or mercy in them
Those eyes, windows to the depths of hell

They’ve done something to me, attacked me somehow
Day by day I get worse, the pain increases
But no-one listens, no-one believes what I say
I fear my end is near, they will have won the world

iSagittarius

Sinew, strength, circumspect;
An abstract cast in magnesium alloy because
there's no shortage of recycled import wheels

Overstatement of a laser light show;
past tense however has had some trouble
counting backward one to ten
Has very little to do with solving for x;
the x and y hyperboles a woman's hands will trace
intimating, while animating each and every story
And iSagittari' the hand-held knows
well enough to leave the z's
and any and all them p's and q's
knows when's best them's left alone

Should the wary shopper needing further convincing;
behold the forearm of the archer
raised 45 degrees above the apparent horizon
Even if you think you're invisible and far downrange;
that intuitive arrow once released
'shall neither see nor hear it coming

Aye; it's okay; keep telling yourself;
iSagittarius moved up from least favorites
iSagittarius lining the bookshelf
iSagittarius to sweeten the oatmeal,
under the fingernails and into your life!

INFINITY'S END

Travel light years to the edge of the universe,
Then leap into forever,
Straight to the vanishing point,
The fabric of time then sever,

Through myriad of dimensions unknown,
Past the glow of Heaven's Gate,
Through labyrinthine of black holes,
Transcending the machinations of fate,

Where are we never going? Where have we always been?
The truth you seek so fervently,
Lay waiting at,
Infinity's End.

Fairy Dance

Come my lads and sit a while beneath the glowing moon
And if you’re sitting still enough, you’ll hear a mournful tune
’Twas in this place some years ago, a lady and her man
Who felt a witching power, and beheld a fairy band

They marched out from yon grove of trees, with faces long and glum
And played an ancient tune upon their whistles and their drums
The sound it billowed louder then, and grew upon the breeze
With tiny wisps of Tule fog encircling the trees

The two were frozen in their place, they could not move at all
And as they watched, the grove of trees became a misty hall
The band marched on and played their tune, and paid them ne’er a glance
But their feet they started twitching as if they longed to dance

Chorus
And the band circled round
And the piper called the tune
While the couple danced without a sound
It ended all too soon

They told no one what they had seen; nor where they thought they’d gone
For they knew no one would understand the power of that song
Instead they slipped away one night, when the moon was full and round
And they went off a-looking for that magic fairy sound

But no one’s ever seen them since, they disappeared that night
And all that people knew was that something wasn’t right
For if they sit alone at night when the moon is full and round
They start to think they might have heard a mournful fairy sound

About this poem:
This song popped into my poor unsuspecting head one night, fully formed with music and everything. I don't know where stuff like this comes from, but I am glad it does.

MOMENT IN ETERNITY

The ICU heart monitor flatlined,
I rose mystically above the room,
Looking down at all the faces,
Painted in sadness, sorrow, and gloom,

As the last weeping soul left out,
And closed the door behind them,
I knew I was dead now,
Leaving only memories to remind them,

Suddenly, incomprehensibly translated,
Into a marvelous new dimension,
Not of time or of space,
Closer to animated suspension,

Immediately in the Presence,
Of Omnipotent Forces of Light,
I held on with all I knew,
With all my will and might,

ICU heart monitor alarm sounds,
The surgeons rush back in,
The flatline
miraculously spiking,
And I was back in Time again,

I had won one,
Moment In Eternity.

Genesis of the Dead

21 August, 2019...Cape Canaveral...

'-and lift off! Lift off of Explorer seven, NASA's first atmospheric sample return probe to Venus!'....

Venus had been born from the same cloud of star dust as its near neighbour and had been hit by clouds of debris left over from the birth of the solar system; but Venus had been hit harder than Earth and her rotation had been slowed to a crawl...on its surface, oceans grew and for a few fleeting millions of years Venus had begun the same road to life as her sister world.

But Venus was so much closer to the inferno that is the Sun..the great oceans began to evaporate, until eventually huge clouds of water vapour hung like a death shroud high above her surface; temperatures rose, pressure increased and the foul vapours from her volcanoes added to the clouds already high in the atmosphere.

And yet, life persisted; a micro organism that rose into the air along with the vapour of the oceans that gave it life. For millions upon millions of years it clung to life, living in a kind of stasis without oxygen to let it breed and evolve.

Then a new visitor arrived; visitors had come before, but they had always continued down to the hell below the clouds, or orbited Venus, probing her secrets; but this one flew through the clouds, scooping up some of the air as it went; then it fired it's engines and soared back out into open space, changing it's course and heading back whence it came, the blue, living earth.

In the sealed canister within the probe, the organism cooled and began to emit radiation; as the probe neared Earth, NASA control detected the emissions, and the decision was made to destroy the probe and it's cargo before it could enter the Earth's atmosphere. But the scientists had left it far too late; the probe exploded in a silent flowering of destruction on the very edge of the atmosphere... some of the organism survived and drifted down into the thicker air far below. Finding it rich with oxygen, it began thrive and multiply, each cell of each organism dividing at a frightening rate...every few minutes it reproduced. It took very little time for Earth's air to be filled with it.

The organism was inhaled by all that lived upon the Earth...Plants rejected it at once, animals likewise, their immune systems recognizing this alien intruder and eliminating it. But due to some quirk of human bio-chemistry, the bodies of people accepted the organism and took no action against it. The organism bred and settled into it's new living hosts, doing no harm, just wanting to live. Soon, every person on Earth was carrying the organism.

This would have been the end of matters but for one fact that was to change the World forever; when people died of accidents, violence or natural causes, the organism, deprived of oxygen again, would begin to emit radiation; this stimulated the nervous systems and the mind of the recently deceased, causing them to re-animate... the person they had been was gone, their memories, life skills and everything but the most basic instincts erased. Rumours began on the internet of people who had returned to life and attacked anyone nearby, biting them, clawing them, ripping chunks of flesh from their warm living bodies and greedily eating it.

The organism carried inside a victim would begin to change again, emitting its radiation. This attacked all the organs in the victim's body, specifically the renal and respiratory systems; they would die within 24 to 48 hours, then re-animate and attack more people. Then their came news reports of apparently random attacks on people; the authorities in most nations tried to clamp down on the news; they were unable and ill equipped to deal with what they were facing.

This continues for some weeks, the amount of victims and re-animates increasing until the critical mass required to interfere with the functioning of organized society was reached.

The apocalypse had begun.

About this poem:
A new 'vague scribble' for you all; a short-short story this time; watching the classic George Romero zombie movies over the weekend set me thinking- apart from some vague hints in 'Night of the living dead' it has never been explained in canon just WHERE this virus came from- no copyright infringement intended, this is fan-fiction written for entertainment purposes only...and please, no wars in the comments section-yes, i know it's a story not a poem as such, and fellow fans of the genre may well disagree with my take on this; why not accept the challenge of the pen and write your own genesis story?

PRECARIOUS ADVENTURE

With reluctance friends enter the unexplored woods
immediately Mosquitoes try infiltrating their hoods
They suddenly become spooked by an eerie sound
as other airborne pest begin to swarm around

They commence to machete through dense brush
moving cautiously determined to stay hush
Group huddles closer while forwarding deeper
faces depict fear of alerting a Predacious sleeper

Body parts bleed from prickly scratches
shedded skins lay visible in patches
Ominous echoes permeate their ears
eyes opened wide reflect hidden fears

They turn to one another uttering not a peep
realizing they may have ventured too deep
They seem paralyzed about what to do
adrenaline gives fight to continue through

Each stare at one another with thoughts the same
let's fall back to entrance from which we came
They all scurry as their hearts intensely pound
after exit exhaustion drops them to the ground

The Storm

thunder and lightening
very very frightening,

scare me not you howling misery,
life is better than your scary destiny.

uncover the beauty of lifes tender love,
uncover the truth of lifes gentle rose,
get out your camera, while i strike a pose,
For my soul within, will flourish indefinitely.

Seek the summit with me my future,
i long to hold, not scold, our heartbeat

Come to me my beauty Queen,
Lets take a walk, and explore curiousely...

IF ONLY

Never imagined my eyes would be witness
to something as breathtaking as she
Captivates like Moon light glistening
atop the darkened sea

In this surreal moment my soul
feels 'one' with tranquility
These inexplicable feelings certainly
because of she

Incredibly resplendent body blinding from afar
though weak kneed I spring to a stand
I see her and I reminiscing outside Tiki Bar
following stroll along beaches shore hand in hand

Oh boy! I apparently nodded off
during night replacing day
Wow, that stupefying lady starred
in dream I had today
