Work

The last time I heard a song I liked that was new
Was Bad Guy by Billie Eilish
Now a new song has emerged
Rich Men North of Richmond by Oliver Anthony
It talks of low wages matched with low value of the US dollar
My Dad once said, "I never made that much when I was working."
I said Dad you got it all wrong
In today's dollars your 13 dollars an hour(1979) would be worth over 54 dollars today
Can you imagine the lifestyle I would have if I made over 100 grand a year?
Like Ross Perot said in 1992, Trickle down economics didn't trickle folks
I see it played out in every job I ever had
It's not just the low pay, it's the poor treatment at all of these places
Many have just given up and went on drugs or welfare
It's a damn shame what the world's come to
For people like me and people like you

July 4

My last two karaoke songs were sung by George Michael
Freedom and Freedom 90
When I think of the fourth of July I think of freedom
Free to be who I am without judgement
Free to go outside without fearing for my safety from thugs and cops
Free to see a doctor or a dentist without financial ruin
Free to live in a house
Free to sleep without waking up too early
The songs deal with relationships
The first doesn't want freedom, all he wants is that special lady
The other freedom to have equal give and take in a relationship
Not always have to be the one always giving while the other just takes
When I was a kid it was about the fireworks
I am going to buy some today
I thought the song Afternoon Delight was about fireworks too
But as I have gotten older from 1976 when I was only six
It is about a good relationship
Where you can always look forward to some sky rockets in flight

The War on Christmas

There is only one and it’s major,
Started by a devil masquerading as saviour.
It is over 5700 miles away,
And to everyone’s horror and dismay,
13000 Ukranian civilians are dead,
Over 7.8 million refugees have fled.
Day after day bombarded,
And plunged into darkness,
Were towns and cities in Ukraine,
by bombs and missiles that maimed,
And turned buildings and streets to rubble,
And its people to dust. This is not us.
We don’t see this kind of trouble.
Not here anyway, Not in the West.
For them there is no rest,
Only a yearning for turning
to former day from endless night.
They see only by candlelight
and the glow of fires burning.
There is no “War on Christmas”
Not here. This is foolishness,
Here there are just many well-meaning folks,
Raising glasses making toasts,
Wether “Merry Christmas “ or “Happy holidays”
May goodwill guide us all our days.

Happy New Year everyone!

That’s true, but…

If it’s important to me,
If it’s my way of expressing my joy;
If I feel that it’s between me and HIM,
Then what’s the harm? What’s it to you?
I’ll do me, and you should do you.
Yes, I know that it's not HIS birthday;
And the day isn't as important as the event.
HE didn’t say that we should remember HIS birth.
He did say that we should remember HIS death, and resurrection.
That’s true, but isn’t HIS birth and life significant events as well?
Isn’t it true that His birth made the rest of it possible?
Do you think that HE would love me less if I celebrate all of it.
I don’t think so, so I’ll take my chances.
I’ll just share my joys and wishes with those who feel the same.

Netflix

I got another Netflix in the mail yesterday
It was Simpson's Christmas 2
In it Homer becomes a prank monkey for Mr. Burns
In another episode, the kids get stuck at school because of snow
And the last one I watched was about Homer being the Grinch
When I was a kid there was no way to watch shows other than TV
You had a TV Guide that told you when shows would come on
I always looked out for Rudolph and watched it every year
Now they have done away with DVDs and VHS rental stores
I miss going there and picking out a movie, it was fun
I have to admit it is far easier, not to mention cheaper just using your phone
Not to mention music
I used to save a long time to get music on records
Now all I have to do is type the song into my phone
Sting used to make one million a year off of just one song
Every Breathe You Take
I wonder how much a hit song makes for an artist today
Not much I bet

Night of the Meek

I have always enjoyed the Twilight Zone
One of my favorites for the holidays is called Night of the Meek
In it a drunken Santa Claus gets fired for being drunk as Santa
He is stumbling through an alley and finds a magic sack
This sack will give anyone whatever they ask for
He gives out presents to poor people and children
He gets arrested and shows the sack is really magical and gets released
The store manager who has him arrested believes too when he gets brandy
In the end he becomes Santa and rides off in a sleigh with a girl elf
My favorite part is when a guy tells him there was nothing for you
He says, I can't think of anything I want
What I really wanted was to be the biggest gift giver of all time
And tonight I think I had that
But if I had a wish it would be to do this every year
That would be a heck of a gift

New Ornament

When I first moved out I spent 80 dollars on my Christmas tree
Tree was 30
Lights were about 20
Ornaments, star and garland about 30
That was 1996
I have added different ornaments since then
I try to add one new one each year
Snoopy, Simpsons, Southpark, Bugs Bunny, hockey puck
That last few years I have added National Lampoon's Christmas
This is the first time I have spent over 100 dollars on three ornaments
It has Clark, his wife Ellen, and his two kids, Audrey and Rusty
You connect them together with a special power cord
When you press one, then they act out scenes from the movie
Each one lights up as they talk to each other
The whole thing revolves around scenes related to getting the Christmas tree
It takes about three minutes
I can't wait to put it on my tree this weekend

The Shining Retold

Jack had a wife and son who he loved very much
He got a job at the Overlook Hotel to maintain it from November thru April
He loved the hedge maze and learned how to escaped from it
He also always dressed for the weather as it got below zero quite often there
He was visited by mean and evil ghosts who wanted him to kill his family
He resisted temptation and invited d*ck over for some good home cooking
The evil spirits just gave up and went away
A good time was had by all
He still works this seasonal job to this day
The End

Thinner Retold

There once was a fat man who weighed 300 pounds
He accidentally hit an old woman with his car
Her father was a good man
So he gave the guy who hit his daughter a blessing
He touched his cheek and said "145"
Soon the guy was losing weight
In six months he was 145 pounds
He could eat anything he wanted to
He found the gypsy who gave him the blessing and helped out his family
With his millions he made it so the family had nice things and good food
They all shared many strawberry pies and lived happily ever after
The End
