HALLOWS' EVE (Response to Halloween Challenge)

HALLOWS’ EVE

A Cold black night with a full moon
A howl on the wind sings an eerie tune
It is Hallows' Eve and the creatures are roaming
There are eyes everywhere – can see them glowing

As the night goes on anyone can see
Them roaming all around – different looking beings
There are zombies, witches, goblins and ghosts
It is hard to count which has the most

Whines – screams – growls – howls
The Devil and his demons are on the prowl
They are wandering the streets and roads outside
Knocking on doors demanding to come inside

Fear is rampant as they become hungry
If you don’t feed them – things could get ugly
Not daring to turn on or off the light
Knowing they’ll keep coming all night

There’s a knock on the door – oh no!
Will it be a friend or foe?
Opening the door carefully to see
A little voice pipes up “Trick or Treat”!

Stuff To Do In October

Eat pumpkin Reese's
Eat apple pie
Eat apple cider donuts
Golf off women's tees when the leaves are yellow and orange
Go to homecoming parade and Platteville Pioneer's football game
Watch horror movies especially Child's Play
Look at all the colorful leaves
Scrape first frost off windows of car
Carve pumpkins
Decorate for Halloween
Eat strawberry pie while watching the movie Thinner
Have a Happy Halloween!

About this poem:
I miss dressing up as a sleestak from Land of the Lost or Dracula and running from house to house to get candy. My favorite as a kid was the minirolls of Life Savers.

Being Dead Ain't Easy

I got bitten by a zombie about a month ago
And boy do I feel guilty
I have this unquenchable hunger for human flesh
Coupled by my belief that eating people is really really wrong
Because you never really get full
I remember in the good ol days of eating pizza(especially at Chuck E Cheese)
And feeling good about it
I could always pull into McDonalds after a hard day and feel good right away
There is no feeling good as a zombie
If you don't eat people you get horrible pain all through your body
I call it screaming pain
As all you can really do is scream your bloody head off
If you eat someone then the guilt is another torture
You don't scream as much as want to cry nonstop
Not to mention the fact that after a month of rot I don't look so hot
So for all you living out there
Take my advice and stay safe
And be sure to stay the hell away from me!!

Pet Semetary

You need to bury your son up at the Indian burial ground Stoch
Your son will come back sour because the soil is sour
He will kill me, your wife, and you will bury your wife up there too
She will then show up and kill you
Sometimes dead is better
But so is broccoli
And you'd rather have a bucket of KFC wouldn't you Stoch?
So let's start digging so we can bury your boy
And in the process bury ourselves

Deprogramming the days of dismay

In honor of the slaughtered
who have come to ask
I honor all your spirits
so today, a sacred fast

Taking time in quiet reverence
I offer you, libations
Protesting your normalized slaughter
by these marketing corporations

To all those, choosing to dwell
in their bubble-wrap of lies
Covid mask, blocks your Vishuddha
denying truth, is most unwise

On this day of thanks, henceforth
I shall abstain from eating
No contribution of Supply & Demand
to the monetarily greedy

The calendar is Not, my God
that program, the woke DO see
Our ‘cestors knew, all days are sacred
Don’t need paper, telling me

For the origins of Xmas
to all pagans, that were slain
I’ll honor you, Dec 25th
From all foods, I shall abstain

I thank you spirits, for my sight
the dreams you gifted and visions
prompting all research, that I did
divulging lies, for my soul’s mission

To you, I offer sacred tobacco
giving peace, for all your pain
And every year, it shall be thus
fasts and offerings again

As your bones lay in Gaia
true origins, and holiday reason
I remember well, your sacrifice
Your blood flavors, calendar season

About this poem:
My disdain for programming. Calendars are just one part of it.

Our Native elder's believed e v e r y day to be sacred. Every day is a day to honor, respect, & show love for both parents (not just 1 day of the year; our parents didn't feed us, clothe us, etc. only 1 day of the year). So how is it that after you we leave the nest, we're only expected to show them love and reverence ONE effing day!? Bullsh*t!

Definitely want nothing to do with a day that celebrates the massacre of the Pequot tribe (take a wild guess what holiday that is). Aaaaaand I'm not even going to bother listing everything that I've researched on Xmas. ROFL ---- I fast on this day also. Although if you're curious, you may wanna research what the colors red/crimson against the green symbolizes.

So aye, traditions and things . . .I prefer to know the origins of anything I celebrate. See the thing about History, is it's typically the story of the victor, not the remnant left over's of massacre trying to pick up the pieces after.

Once I've discovered the true origins of something (the energy behind it) if it's founded on the duress of others, that forever alters my perception of that holiday. So I can't fake the funk on "programming". Just feels better all the way around for every day to be sacred, because then the primary focus is gratitude for having another day. Alive is good reason to celebrate, isn't it?

Vacation to Maine

Three days to get there
Bangor, Maine is where
Saw Acadia National Park
Ate some lobster on a lark
Saw Steven King's home and it was eerie
Found it thanks to my best buddy Siri
She told me how to get there and back
My only complaint is the music I had to lack
While I waited for her to tell me where to turn
Spending too much time on my phone I could have been burned
It's dangerous to play with these phones going down the road
You could get squashed like a toad
I saw Niagara Falls on the way back
The good view from Canada was all I lacked
Then it was to Sandusky, Ohio to walk on the beach by Lake Erie
The next day I was on the beach by Lake Michigan, you should have seen me!
Since Monday it's been daily trips to Madison to Chuck E Cheese
Played at a video game place for 15 bucks with ease
Then to Dubuque to eat some cold guacamole with Doritos
Play some video games, my favorite Pacman was broke, that's the way it goes
I went to a record store in Janesville
Got my latest Adam Sandler CD, what a thrill
Ate some Panda Express
The sauce got on my pants, what a mess!
So today it's off to Davenport for Ruby's, Goodwill and the mall
Lots of dollars paid for it all

The Snake Pit

Carved my three pumpkins
T-rex, Princess Leia, and Alien
Now I am going golfing around 11:30
#6 has a grave yard to the left of the fair way
If you hit one in you leave it
Then around 3:30 I leave for my mom's
I call it the Snake Pit
This may be the last year there for Trick or Treating
I got a call from my sister saying she wants to put mom in a home
Mom has dementia as well as a grandson who has drained her savings
There is nothing left to pay the bills
I turned them down when they asked me for money
I had already paid a third of my Dad's funeral which was about three grand
So will she let me stay and give out candy or send me packing?
All I can do is try
Try once again to survive The Snake Pit!

About this poem:
My sister is doing basically what we did to Japan in 1945, getting revenge for neglect of her and her children and grandchildren by taking mom out of her home and away from her grandson and greatgrandson, and her great granddaughter, when she is brave enough to visit.

Garage Sale Drama

Covid has taken a huge bite out of the number of garage sales
I have a Chevy Cruze with remote start
If the battery gets low the car won't start
I came close to being stranded in front of St Mary's Gym
I thought they had a garage sale in the gym
They didn't
I was supposed to help my sister haul away garbage from Mom's home today
A day before Mother's Day
Not happening!
I didn't support her being taken from her home
I'm not going to be part of her loss of her freedom
Freedom to drive her car
Gone!
Freedom to live with her grandchildren
Gone!
Her mind
Going, Going, Gone!
At least I got some good chocolate chip cookies

About this poem:
I was lucky enough to be off work today so I could get a few garage sales in. I asked a woman I bought a joke book about Norwegians if she was, she laughed and said she was Swedish.

Oscar

Oscar
Before Schindler's List
I thought of Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street
Oscar, the award for good movies, actors, and the worker behind the cameras
On February 4, 1994 I got another famous Oscar
Oscar Schindler saved 1,200 Jews during the Holocaust
Moses led two million Jews out of slavery in Egypt
I remember going to a Wedding of a Christian woman and a Jewish man
It was the first time I had lamb chops
It was the first time I had a braided bread called challah bread
Both were great
I also remember the huge wheel of Brie and crackers
And all the free mixed drinks you could drink
There were pumpkins and fresh snow on the ground
Two days before Halloween in 2011
My favorite Jew other than Oscar Schindler would have to be Adam Sandler
He has had me laughing for 30 years

6. God shall give me good health

About this poem:
The Ten Commandments has been on TV before Palm Sunday for as long as I can remember. My favorite scenes are when Moses is being threatened with stoning when the slaves find out they have to make their bricks without straw and later when he throws the stone tablets with the ten commandments on them and he says, "Those who will not live by the law, shall die by the law!"
