Poems from my Youth: (2) - Friendship

A friend like you is worth much more
Than all the treasures earth can store
Your worth I measure not in gold
But in the beauty of your soul
I think about you when we met
And there I knew my sun had set
A friend so true I then did find
A friend so gentle and so kind
I saw the beauty in your eyes
And then I came to realize
When you placed your hand in mine
My heart in friendship you did bind
My eyes you opened and just then
At last I knew I had a friend

The Rusted Shovel

I don’t know how long it has been this time
Just leaning against the wall inside the door
You’re always there when I needed you
Through many years we have toiled together
Your handle polished smooth by my sweat
Slowly digging away ….. all the little stones
Watch them crumble and split in half and half again
A whole lifetime now wears pretty thin
I am more gentle with you and you with me

Perfect Pencraft * 4 Mick *

If words are colors and lines are shapes, there's something to be seen...
Things that never were before, designs that seem to gleem...
You've added unknown mixtures to this corner of a team...
And washed our souls, complete control, your colors make us clean...

One can only wonder if it's the canvas that you use...
Painting pictures of your life, we certainly peruse...
Some have said it very well, your colors are well used...
But back to back, the black you stack, is the best and that's a fact....

About this poem:
Because of the fact that your farewell poem is still being commented on, I have decided to re-write this from memory. I transferred it into Kingsoft recently to edit it, but my phone crashed and I lost everything. I think it is close to the original however....
We love you brother Mick......

HIDDEN TREASURE

WE CAN SEARCH FOR TREASURE,
STORM THE GREAT WALLS OF THE KEEP,
OR HUNT ALONG THE HILLSIDE
WHERE GOLD IS BURIED DEEP.
WE CAN QUEST ENDLESSLY FOR
SOME GREAT HIDDEN TROVE
AND HUNT FOR SPARKLING GEMS
WHEREVER WE MAY ROVE.
OVER LAND OR SEA
OR WAY UP IN THE AIR,
WE CAN SEARCH FOR RICHES
EVERYWHERE.
YET WERE ALWAYS SURE
TO LEARN IN THE END,
THAT NO TREASURE COMPARES
TO THAT OF A FRIEND;
FOR A HEART THAT IS WARM,
AND CARING AND KIND
IS THE GREATEST TREASURE
THAT WE'LL EVER FIND.

I Miss you

I miss you

I miss the hours we would spend talking,
being open and honest and free
I miss how my heart would breath a sigh of
relief because you brought me peace

I miss the feeling of hope and happiness
and how with you I always felt content

I miss you

I miss the hours I would spend lying
by your side tracing the lines upon your skin
I miss the way you held me close enough
to hear your heartbeat, I wish I could hear it again

I miss you

I miss you every minute of everyday
it’s an ache, a sadness, an emptiness
that doesn’t ever go away

I miss you

Caring Friend

I often think that I am done,
my heart can take no more.
That I am understood by none,
the compassionate close their door.

I often think I should give up,
no more torment, no more hope.
I should just stay here in my rut,
familiarity will help me cope.

But then, someone comes along,
and shows a heart that beats.
To which, there plays a loving song,
of strength gained through defeats.

Someone who says, "All will be well,
sometimes it takes a while.
You will find your way, out of your hell,
and once again you'll smile."

Takes my hand and holds it so tight,
and says, "I'll never let go.
Not 'til I know, you are alright,
no longer bent like a bow."

And at last!, again that nasty gloom,
lifts up it's ugly veil.
The sun shines, flowers are in bloom,
doom came to no avail.

The birds are chirping, ever so sweet,
optimism has yet to end.
My mind is at rest, turmoil obsolete,
thanks to a caring friend.

LIARS IN RELATIONSHIPS

THERE ARE SO MANY OF THEM; SO WHERE DO I BEGIN? THEY SAY ONE THING FOR THE MOMENT; BUT THEY MEAN ANOTHER THING! IF YOU CAN NEVER TRUST; YOUR RELATIONSHIPS WILL ALWAYS BE A BUST! THAT IS WHY YOU HAVE TO START SLOWLY; BELIEVE IN EACH OTHER; AND GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER; THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN; YOU"RE IN LOVE; AND THAT EXCELS YOU TO WALKING; HAND IN HAND THROUGH LIFE; AND THROUGH ALL ETERNITY; WITHOUT EVER EXPERIENCING ONE OUNCE OF STRIFE!

Tears From the Sky

When the Rain falls
my thoughts of you come to view
the rain reminds me of my tear drops
like heaven's crying too
I miss the tender words you say
that made my heart ring
and took my breath away
I feel your passion and love
that helps me pull through
I know we'll be together again one day
I can feel it in my heart

We're all the same

In our brotherhood of men
We are the same, we're just the same.
Tree lives and grows, and falls and dies,
So does a man. In pain and strife
He's born, then grows and dies the same,
We're all the same, we're just the same.

In our brotherhood of men
We try to move to better end,
Well knowing, life is but a thread
Which stretched tight will give and break,
Being the same we're more than safe.

In our brotherhood of men
We'd never know what's best for men,
Much weaker we would be and break,
But for the knowledge we're the same,
Cause we're same, we're all the same.

In our brotherhood of men
Our human nature strives for best.
This is what matters in the end,
Forgetful of or knowing well
We are the same, we're just the same.

They Bought You

They bought you with words. "Family".
You couldn't feel it, but it lived in your thoughts, a fantasy.

They bought you with lies. "Family".
You couldn't touch the warmth and you became cold but it lived in your thoughts, your fantasy, and so you moved to keep warm.

They bought you with "WORDS", "FAMILY".
You couldn't feel it, you thought because you were numb to it, but surely it was there and not only in your thoughts, your fantasies.

They bought you with "LIES". "FAMILY".
You couldn't feel it, you were dying, a slow and miserable death, chasing a dream played in your mind.

About this poem:
At the time of this writing I had been reflecting on a lost friendship. A person who called me his brother. I was surprised at how easily it was for him to renounce our "Brotherhood" after a single disagreement. I was mostly disappointed at how little value being his brother all that time was worth to him.
