The Really Really Short Version of the Bible

God created the world in six 24 hour days
Then on the Sunday he rested
Then God caught Adam and Eve eating apples
And he threw them out of the garden of Eden
Then Cain killed Abel because God likes lamb chops more than broccoli
Then Noah road on an ark with two of each animal
Everyone else drowned because they were wicked
Then Moses freed the slaves, parted the Red Sea
And got the 10 Commandments
Later on in a town called Sodam and Gomorrah
They anally raped strangers to death and wanted to rape angels too
So God destroyed them and turned Lot's wife into a pillar of salt
David then killed Goliath with a slingshot
Jonah gets swallowed by a whale and lives inside it for a few days
The devil bets God Job will stop praising him
If God kills off his servants, family, and livestock
God proves Satan wrong and gives Job back his abundance
Jesus is born in a stable
Because in olden times you couldn't make reservations
Mary and Joesph take Jesus to Egypt
Because King Herod would have Jesus killed if they stayed
Thirty years later we find Jesus performing miracles
Turning water into wine
Healing the sick, blind, lepers, bring dead people to life
Walking on water
Turning a few fishes and loaves into many more fishes and loaves
Driving out demons, washing feet, and telling inspirations stories
Then Jesus gets betrayed by one of his disciples named Judas
Jesus gets crucified, Judas gets some gold coins and kills himself
Jesus then comes back from the dead three days later
Then he hangs out with his other disciples and then goes up to heaven
Then a long time after that the world will end
There will be four horsemen, a lot of angels blowing on trumpets
The dead will be judged
Satan will be chained up for a thousand years
And Jesus will come back to rule the Earth
The End

About this poem:
I tried to write this as a cliff notes version for someone who had never heard of the bible. I left out one of my favorite stories. The one where the little girl asks for the head of John the Baptist on a platter. Mark 6:14-30

THE HIGHWAYMAN

Outside,
Hostelry sign swings in the storm,
A creak….. The door opening,
Wick in tallow guttering,
Sputtering, as cold air greets warm.
Footsteps ‘cross a silent room,
Except for the old man in the corner,
Pulling on his clay pipe,
Muttering in the gloom.
First a whisper then two, then a laugh and talking,
Clump clump, as two flintlocks are laid on the bar,
Twas and will always be the same when he comes,
Looking alive, but almost, a dead man walking.
For he will likely one day be caught by the law,
And by the rope, and by the courts,
The gentry relieved,
A wigg'd hangin’ judge will even the score.
But for now a hearty meal, a whiskey dram,
A buxom wench,
A pipe with tobacco from the bottom draw
To satisfy the legend and the man.

"So here’s to the free wind as it crosses the moor,
Here’s to you and here’s to me,
To the damned taxman and the Royalty,
Two yards of rope on the hangin’ tree,
And to the day I don’t come through that door".

Three

There are no challenges
Where I reside
For deserted by myself
Then this island
Is home
It is where I scream
It is a choice
Of finding myself
It holds no terrors
Or deems to me
That this is fate
And where I belong

I took that choice
For only one
Can abandon themselves
Yet you gave me
The chance to live
By choosing
Things that would
Comfort me
And bring me hope
But I abandoned hope
As one challenge
Far too far

So I must choose
And it is true love
That most glorious
Of depth
And may I find compassion
For a heart
That bears none
Is truly a lost soul
And finally
I choose you
It matters not
Who you are
That like me
You are a soul
That made the choices
Of abandoning
Yourself
For the sake
Of others

redemption

don't pretend
like you never felt
the depth and sting
of my pain

you painted my sorrows
in bleeding colors
with your raw hands
and dig in my flesh
like sheared talons

I begged all the angels
to redeem me
but even them looked
too drugged in your vanity

stark naked in the shadow
even the moon lit up
your punitive piercing eyes
crushing my pride

and as the night bathed
in my shattered soul
redemption, you laughed
is but a figment
of the mind of a fool

I will remain shackled
in the claw of your
cold and unforgiving world

but giving up
is no longer my choice
I will find my way out
I will.

Heart of Gold

Hail to you, Sir Cafe, most gallant knight
Defending the castle Poetry Corner
Protecting all the maidens day and night
While all the other knights you inspire

With your poems you wove a magic spell
Oftentimes taking us on a journey
Captivating with wondrous tales you tell
Fascinating us with their imagery

Your replies to comments on your poetry
Were always warm, cheerful and refreshing
They showed your pleasant personality
For all of us they were most endearing

We thank you noble knight with heart of gold
And may heaven bless your beautiful soul

My pain is self chosen, but at least it all makes perfect sense
Some days my heart feels broken, but my love will never bend
In trivial pursuit of understanding what I'm doing here
Consequently dug the hole so deep I buried all my hopes with fear
Nearly every road I traveled is the remnant smell of a burning bridge
As the choking smoke began to strangle the beating flesh within my ribs
But I never claimed to be a saint nor holier than thou
I'm a man with many wrinkles that I'm not sure will ever iron out
But who I was or where I've been doesn't mean a thing today
I threw away that heavy armor and in naked flesh I will be brave
So that I may be honest with myself and others can see the truth
There I've found the courage to admit my wrongs to you
A deflating soul that learned sacrifice guided by a hardened will
Who have compassed my destruction will feel the cold edge of my steel
Then when our sun as old as time arises for us all to see another day
I'll choose to seize that moment until it forever shines down on my grave

End of a Poets Day

Well, that's it then!
The end of my day,
Got some ideas for tomorrow,
But, that's a whole sleep away.
I'm sleepy and tired,
All poeted out with not much more to say.
So thank you one and all,
I hope I have pleased some of you,
Be you, handsome, sweet and short,
Or beautiful and tall.
Whether you're here or there, doesn't matter
Because all around the globe, in poetry, we natter,
So May your God go with you,
And bless you one and all!

WOTSIT'S NAME????......No....4......(SOLVED)

I am so very old and also twenty nine,
Plurally, sometimes described as “Evil“,
Though, I’ve been religiously “Saved”, from time to time,
Called young in blue by some who have said,
When really my colour was originally red,
Then again, the Romans called me of “Cyprus”,
Then, shortened my name,
Even today, you still know me as the same,
My first two letters, still allows me my place at the table,
And I can even be finely woven and as soft as sable,
Or even made into a named equivalent,
Of a US or British form of measurement.
Metaphorically good when “Straight” and bad when “Bent”,
If I’m not used wisely and with energy,
Eventually, I will be either “Fired”, or, “Spent”,

SOLUTION
I am so very old and also twenty nine, (No. 29 in the table of elements)
Plurally, sometimes described as “Evil“, (Coppers, pennies, money)
Though, I’ve been religiously “Saved”, from time to time,
Called young in blue by some who have said, (Boys in blue, police, coppers….slang)
When really my colour was originally red,
Then again, the Romans called me of “Cyprus”, (Cyprium …Metal of Cyprus)
Then, shortened my name, (Cuprum)
Even today, you still know me as the same, (CU)
My first two letters, still allows me my place at the table, (CU, in the table of elements)
And I can even be finely woven and as soft as sable,
Or even made into a named equivalent,
Of a US or British form of measurement. ( A Cable…Nautical measurement)
Metaphorically good when “Straight” and bad when “Bent”, (Honest or dishonest…Slang)
If I’m not used wisely and with energy,
Eventually, I will be either “Fired”, or, “Spent”,
