**This Jaded Woman

Still masked in your florescent
And over exposed in your light
Sinking in the ocean of your skin
I sin
Tasting branded shoulders and saccharin words
Tracing black lines within the curves
Obscured by our tangible forms
Lost within verbs and nouns
Breaths and moans
Fears and risky thought

Like fingerprints upon my eyelids
Making riddles upon my lips
And tight grips
Which twist knots into your crimson stem

And again you grow dim with the vanishing day
While I obscure your being in my sheets
And grow weak without you

I am weak without you

I submerge into this distant place
Where your face is burned into the sky
And I’m still masked in your florescent
And overexposed in your light
Weak from the sight of your finery

I’m jaded, yet charmed
Becoming disarmed in your body heat
Twisting my legs beneath this sheet
I hold back

I hold back

As you pour over me in silence yet broken
Locking your jaw in the drone of the screen
I have seen your softness

So displaced in my darkness

**Behind Blue Eyes

Through the time we spent as stoic figures,
Resting on cement legs that restricted motion,
And emotion a play of figures dancing in circles
With shadows joining the dance,
Monotony,
Her fragile frailty,
Outstretched arms to mobility,
I am her golden coin among the silver,
Yet dull with wear and time,
A dream last night that led me to believe
I should hide,
Behind your blue eyes,
The doors that wasted life,
Behind your blue eyes,
The strife of epic stories and conversations,
I am tangled in this pattern,
Just the momentary bliss,
A kiss that leads you to distant deserts
Where we haunt ourselves with thirst,
I am this patient hold on the edge of your mind,
Keeping you from torture,
In teeth that will not resist,
I am bruised,
I am broken,
I am the last you ever kissed

**Color Me

Hindered, butterfly lips
Caress periods of solitude in my waking dreams
Of you
Echoes of late night parking lot shoulder stares
In the hour glass blares
Choking my dry throat – comatose
When I want to crawl inside you to escape the cryptic sunrise
When I want to be beneath you
Weathering out the disaster
My world
Outstretched arms to feel the wind
Flying dragon kites into the tree of you
When I want to be with you
Tasting your brown sugar skin until I die a diabetic
The pathetic monotonies of this love-sick fool
The cruelty of weathered limbs
Keeping my head under water
When I’m caught in the outlines of your coloring book depiction
Longing for waxen tones to fill beyond my lines
Color me
Color me
Color me inside out

**I Am

Like closing my eyes and taking in surroundings
Falling into lacey arms
Disarmed in the TV shadows
Blue lights and monotonous drones of DVD
Tasting tomatoes on razor beard hairs
Cutting out red tinged blush on my face
In this place I am locked out of reason
Reasoning that you could be inside me
As static graces screen in
Shut down grey
I say, “I love you”
As I do
Cradled inside tender touch
Exciting motions as you try for a single moan
I am drawn out and adorned
Cast in yellow and red
Undressed in fluid motions
Emotion flowing out like shaken carbonation
I trace out features
De-saturated jaw-lines
The beauty in your closed eyes
The feed in your flesh rise
I am

**If I Could Take You Into Me

Inside the dance of night time stars
Decorating the skies in grease white chalk lines
Inside my mind, they wash out and wrinkle down the steps
A song of tragedy plays too sweetly
Yet, I could take the tune and take you into me
Like a submission for you fear so greatly
In the decorated lives of a soldier’s memory
It’s wartime in the city
And god if I could fit you somewhere inside of me
I’d know that I’d be happily in tune
If I could come too soon when you’re inside of me
To simply understand this holding on is holding on is holding on
Until my bleeding flesh grasps the fibers
Of tiny human faces in places I’ll never be
You see
A rope of choices around your neck
Is the rope of you around mine
In the extinguished flames of rage that pass
My jumper cables cut into you
To charge a single moment of feeling
That burns up in a flash
So rapid
Like the pieces of my puzzle
That hit the floor in slow motion light
You are left flickering before me
A pattern of a thousand eyes staring down
Freezing up the room in the disturbance
A pale concentration
Reminding me of the impurities of what I do
I wish I could touch you and not lose my form
A substantial glare of an image
A time we were so uselessly serine
I grasp so tightly in my hand
Willing you to pour yourself into me
With tears that write songs
Of murderous cells that dance in the crimson waves
Like sultry bedroom eyes in a quaint disguise
In hiding
I stare at this ring so long I begin to grow blind
Until I realize in time
It was a dream of dreaming of dreaming I was dreaming
And screaming out your name with impossibility tied upon me
I’m growing dry staring at my reflection
I reach in and shake my hand
I understand your plight, my friend
It’s the messages you send
Of keeping yourself behind defenses
In the colors of the motion
In the ocean
Crawling along the sandy floor searching for a tiny reminder
Kinder people wearing masks of security
Making humor to peel away the danger
And If I could take you into me
I think you’d understand
How much I need to close my eyes
To pretend
To disguise this fragile face of me
If I could take you into me

About this poem:
I wrote this poem and many others during a time when I was involved with a man who had some commitment problems. He lived with me for a year and then decided to move out while continuing a relationship with me. I went through a lot of emotional turmoil and found solace in writing these poems and performing in open mic poetry readings around town. Oddly enough, that is where I met my husband a couple of years later.

The poem is somewhat s*xual, but the underlying meaning is that I wanted that man to understand me. I wanted him to "be inside" of me to understand how I felt.
