Casting spells....real?

About a year ago a friend of mine introduced me to one of his friends. This gentleman approached me first by saying he was a Wiccan. I try not to be a judgemental person and have not heard a lot about Wicca so it really was no big deal. I asked him a little about what exactly that is. He went on to explain that it is scary....to even himself he explains, that he can see spirits and read people.

He then asks me if I would like a reading. Thinking that this should be interesting, I agreed. He grabs my hand and sorta rolls his eyes up. Then he precedes to rattle off about five things about me. He was spot on with his analysis. I ended up being rather surprised and thinking to myself, is there really anything to this stuff?

So recently, I decided to do a brief search on Wicca to find out more about this religion. First I heard was it is the fast growing religion in Europe (if I am recalling correctly). Next I hear it is a religion where people do what feels best for them...as long as it harms nobody. Then I heard that "magick" is involved....and most Wiccans are particular with spelling magick with a k. The lady I was listening to said that the magick was to be used for the good. She also said that there is not one particular Wicca religion and means different things to different people.

It is said that Wiccans are able to cast spells. When I was in college, a literature class of mine has us studying Voo Doo in the Caribbean. Also in Voo Doo, it is said that people can cast spells. That is two different religions that believe that spells can be cast.

Is casting spells real?

dunno

If you were my mobile phone, where would you be?

And please don't all shout at once. I can't phone it, it is going straight to voicemail, it does that, decides to take a break every now and then.

The alarm is due to go off tomorrow morning, sure, I could hear it then - but it may have run out of charge. In which case I may never wake up again. uh oh

I don't expect many helpful suggestions, busy as you all are with politics and sex and there's probably a religious blog or two as well, but any suggestions would be welcomed.

NB - political, religious (including asking St Anthony) or s*xual comments will be deleted no matter how hilarious they are. Sick to death of all those subjects now. scold

In fact any comments on any other subject, whether or not they relate to my AWOL phone, are welcome. But I know how busy you are.

Books and Reading

I recently came across a Best Books list, and thought it would be interesting to see what people thought of it, and if they had read many of them (No, watching the film doesn’t count laugh )
‘Best’ is subjective, and this list is probably Western-centric, but it does cover a lot of genres.

I can never remember not reading, from earliest childhood to the present day. Reading has always been an important part of my life. It is how I discover new words; new styles; new ideas and new worlds.

As kids we used to trot down to the local library on a Saturday morning to gleefully choose our books for the week. I didn’t read many classics as a kid, I was more into Enid Blyton or other adventure books.
It was only as a teenager I started reading deeper books, but I still enjoy a good mystery/murder novel.

I prefer to watch Shakespeare plays being performed rather than reading them, and I, to my shame, have never got to love James Joyce. I never really liked romantic novels either, especially chick-lit.

I love travel books. I get totally engrossed in the journey and the adventure. Dervla Murphy was my favourite travel writer growing up. She was so independent; fearless; bohemian and different to the people I knew in real life that I loved her, and followed her travels with glee.

Apart from all Oscar Wilde books (he is my favourite author, being witty and irreverent), a few books stand out in my mind as being memorable:

The Alchemist by Paulo Cuehlo
Sarum by Edward Rutherford
One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Lorca
A Place Apart – Dervla Murphy
Gulliver's Travels - Dean Swift
Vernon God Little by DBC Pierre

What are your favourite books/authors.genres?

Best Book list to follow....

What I’m Trying To Say

When I first came here about three years ago, I did not attract much attention for a few weeks and everybody was friendly towards me. As I started to attract some attention, some of the older hands started insulting me. At first I took it as a joke but when it went on I started retaliating.frustrated

I was accused of being the same entity as the late Simmo, and also to be the same persona of an inactive blogger of long standing here. Now Simmo is gone but I’m still here. The other person is also still here, but I think that fantasy has also died an early death.tongue

I was called narcissistic. I cannot even spell it, I had to look it up in the dictionary because I spelled it so wrong that my spellchecker did not even recognize it.doh

Narcissistic. Ah, I got it right this time. Anyway, I sat down and wondered if all those people could be wrong. Incidentally, that was the problem with all my enemies. They said I was narcissistic. Hey, I got it right again. Apparently, being narcissistic was my only flaw.mumbling

And I started working on my problem. I’m taking about being narcissistic now. I sat down and practiced to be humble and modest. It was hard work, but it paid off in the end.professor

I am no longer narcissistic. I am humble and modest now. So if that was my only flaw, I must be purrrfect now.laugh

What I’m trying to say is that we all have our flaws, for instance I like to mock with myself and others but never know when to stop. People don’t always realize that I’m teasing and we have problems. Right now, we are only polarizing the blogs and it is not needed. The way we’re proceeding now, we are not going to end before some of us are suspended. sigh

Let’s stop the crap now. If we don’t like somebody, let’s just ignore him or her. We are grown-ups and should behave like that. We don't have to read blogs that we don't like.wink

Bedroom Golf

This game is a perfect alternative to pocket billiards. Contrary to other ball games, you must play the course and not the balls. In order to score, you have to get the club in the hole and keep the balls out. For most effective play, the club should have a rigid shaft, optionally rubber-coated for extra protection. Whereas the most sought after achievement in normal golf is to get a hole in one, the aim here is to get one in the hole.professor

The game strategy is to take as many strokes as necessary until the course owner is satisfied that play is completed. Failing to do so, may result in being denied permission to play the course again. It is considered bad form to begin playing the hole immediately upon arrival at the course. It is advisable to take time to explore the entire course with special attention to well-formed bunkers. Experienced bunker players do well in this game.wow

The course owner is responsible for pruning any weeds around the hole to allow for improved viewing and approach to the hole. Slow play is encouraged, but players should be prepared to proceed at a quicker pace, at the course owner's request.devil

Players are cautioned not to mention other courses they have played before. Angry course owners have been known to damage players' equipment for this reason. Players are encouraged to bring proper rain gear for their own protection and should bear in mind that courses may sometimes be temporary closed due to periodic maintenance, in which case the handyman, Master Bates could be called on to solve the problem manually.doh

It is a delightful game if you can keep to the rules, though the green fees will escalate dramatically if you take a permanent lease on the golf course. Special care has to be taken when playing several courses at the same time; it can have a negative impact on your life expectancy.laugh

Have a great day and try not to play all day.wave

The people of New Hampshire has spoken

This is just the beginning.

Trump is growing with the crowd that is pushing him forward. The conservative and the progressive are just meeting halfway making the flow a bit more enthusiastic than I even anticipated.

The truth is that our political landscape has dramatically changed in response to the incompetence of the current administration.

While, Cruz, Rubio and or Christie are just as capable in making these changes possible (immigration, health, tax control, job creation) it seems America is going forth in the direction of looking for someone that not only has the guts but hopefully can't be bought even by the FR shenanigans but also work toward making this country great again.

Great job New Hampshire.

What is happening in our beautiful country? Orlan

Thank you for listening. These are ridiculously unacceptable.

From what just happened in Orlando, I can't seem to digest clearly what should be done but these are the events that describe our dire need of solution.

word of wisdom

how many knows the moral of this quote?

“The heights by great men reached and kept were not attained in sudden flight but, they while their companions slept, they were toiling upwards in the night.”

? Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Long nails and the difference between men and wome

Typing this cautiously with freshly painted nails and I got to thinking while I painted them – why long nails?

Originally they were worn by men as a sign of privilege, you had people to do things for you so you grew your nails to show you were far too rich to have to work. Over time it has become attractive for men to have short well-kept nails, and it is women who want longer nails. I keep mine quite long and curse if I break one and have to cut the whole lot down because suddenly I struggle to pick things up laugh

NOT as long as this! These are horrendous!

How many women would be slightly freaked if the man they met on a blind date had long painted nails? I don’t even like the long pinky nail some men insist on. uh oh Better, or worse, though, than bitten nails?

Made me wonder if there are other things that women do that men would like to do? Or, for that matter, that they wish women wouldn’t do laugh
